Taj Mahal strikers take their fight to Trenton

TRENTON -- Striking Atlantic City casino workers have rallied in Trenton in support of a bill that would grant unemployment benefits to workers engaged in lengthy labor disputes.

More than 100 union members appeared at the Statehouse Monday to support a bill that would grant unemployment benefits to workers on strike for more than 30 days.

The measure was passed by the state Senate, 22-15, on Monday afternoon. It still needs to be approved by the Democratic-controlled Assembly and Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

The strike by Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union against the Trump Taj Mahal casino entered its 32nd day Monday.

The central issue in the strike is restoration of health care and pension benefits the casino ended while in bankruptcy two years ago.
