SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a snowplow operator escaped serious injury when the top deck of a parking garage he was plowing collapsed in northern New Jersey.

The collapse in Secaucus occurred shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday. Officials say the garage mostly serves guests and staff at a nearby hotel, as well as workers at a multistory office building.

The cause of the collapse remains under investigation, and town engineers have declared the entire parking structure unsafe.

Authorities say the snowplow operator was "shaken up," but did not release his name. A sport utility vehicle parked in the structure was destroyed, but no one was in the vehicle at the time.

Others who had parked there were able to safely remove their vehicles later in the day.
