Authorities say two people trying to flee the scene of a shoplifting were captured because they locked their keys in their car.

Wyckoff police say officers responded to a pharmacy Tuesday morning after a store employee reported the pair were acting suspiciously. They found 27-year-old Robyn Verga, of Garfield, trying to open a car door with a coat hanger.

Authorities say Verga and 27-year-old Jordon Stevens, of Prospect Park, gave officers different stories about why they were at the store. Verga also allegedly gave police a different name for herself than what Stevens told the officers.

Verga allegedly had a glass smoking pipe containing suspected cocaine residue and drug paraphernalia. Stevens allegedly had a laser pointer that had been stolen from the pharmacy.

Telephone numbers for Verga and Stevens could not be located Friday,
