State Senate President Stephen Sweeney addressed the board Thursday, telling them he believes Mark Hershhorn should be forced out.

Hershhorn has released a statement saying he wanted coach Mike Rice ousted in December when he was shown a video of Rice shoving and kicking players and using gay slurs in practices from 2010 through last year.

Sweeney says it was Hershhorn's duty as chairman of the committee that oversees athletics to bring the issue to the full board.

Rice was fired last week after the video became public.
