Adopt Cassanova

Cassanova is a 2-year-old handsome, friendly young cat that came to the Edison Municipal Animal Shelter as a stray. Just one look at his beautiful long black and white coat, cute little milk mustache and whiskers would make Sylvester jealous. Cassanova has a charming, magnetic personality which makes him a volunteer favorite. It is impossible to pass by his kennel without being engaged by this talkative, adorable cat.

Casanova loves to play in our cat exercise area which is right across from his kennel, and he'll often jump out to play as soon as his kennel door is opened. He loves to rub against legs and do figure eights in between feet. He's such a delight!

Despite being tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), Cassanova is very healthy. Cats with FIV that live indoors, are fed a good quality diet and have responsible veterinary care can live long lives. FIV is in no way a death sentence. To learn the facts about FIV in cats, please click here. He is neutered, FeLv negative and up-to-date on his vaccinations.

If you're interested in meeting Cassanova or adopting him, please email us at EAS@edisonnj.org or call us at 732-248-7278. You can see more adoptable cats from Friends of EMAS here or download a PDF copy of the application form here.

Adopt Sheba

Sheba is a 7-year-old female German Shepard that needs a home after her owner  passed away. She is very friendly and loves attention from adults and children. Sheba can be aggressive toward other dogs, so she would work best in a home as the only pet. She is nervous during thunderstorms, but seems to do well if she wears a Thundershirt. Sheba has arthritis, but she takes a supplement to help with the pain.

She lived the first four years of her life outside so she hasn't been properly housebroken, but she will use a newspaper if she needs to go to the bathroom. For the most part, she will wait between 8 to 9 hours before needing to go. Her foster mom, Roberta, thinks she would be easily housebroken with the right person giving her the attention, commitment and love she deserves.

If you’re interested in learning more about Sheba or to schedule a visit, call Sheba's foster mother Roberta at 609-771-6697. For additional information, email dogs@easelnj.org or call 609-883-0540. Adopt Toto

Toto

Toto is a 1-year-old Cairn Terrier, just like the dog from "The Wizard of Oz." He's a big personality with a cheerful smile. He is very lively, attentive and loves people. He has a lot of energy and likes to be on the move. For a small guy, he is very strong and sturdy, yet easy to handle. He loves to take long walks and would do best in a harness because he pulls a bit on the leash. Cairn Terriers are known to chase after small animals, so he must always be on a leash. Needless to say, there cannot be small animals in the home as pets.

Toto is smart and alert and will be able to learn all sorts of tricks. We think he would do well in an agility class because he is active and can jump pretty high. Even though Toto is small, Cairn Terrier websites recommend daily walks, lots of exercise, play, mental stimulation and a secure fenced-in yard for romping around freely. Without the right leadership and exercise, this breed can become bossy, bored and destructive. In addition, his wire-haired coat needs a lot of grooming or it will become matted.

For more information on this breed, please click here.

If you're interested in meeting Toto or fostering/adopting him, please email us at EAS@edisonnj.org or call 732-248-7278. You can see more adoptable dogs from Friends of EMAS here or download a PDF copy of the application form here.

Her name says it all. Lovey is a young tiger cat with hints of red in her coat. Most recently she gave birth to six babies and served as a surrogate to five other kittens for a total of 11 little mouths to feed. She was a good mom to all these kittens and now deserves a home of her own. She’s been spayed and is up-to-date on her vaccines. Her foster mom says she is chatty and will meow back when asked a question and is always up for some pets. Lovey is long and lean and a real sweetheart.

To schedule a visit to meet Lovey, please email kitty@easelnj.org or call 609-883-0540. You can find more of EASEL’s adoptable cats and kittens here, or download a PDF copy of the application form here.
