Saturday Speeches: Price At The Pump [VIDEO]

President Barack Obama says improved fuel efficiency is part of the answer to high gasoline prices and that Detroit automakers are on track to build cars that average nearly 55 miles per gallon by 2025.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama says vehicle fuel economy standards set under his administration and better cars built by a resurgent U.S. auto industry will save money at the gas pump over the long term.

For the Republicans, Washington state Rep. Doc Hastings says he sees a ray of hope for some House-passed energy bills after a White House meeting this week between Obama and congressional leaders.

But Hastings, the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, faulted Obama for not doing more to increase domestic oil and gas production. He cited Obama's opposition to Arctic drilling, a Canada-to-Texas oil pipeline and for imposing too many regulations.
