This week we discussed the possibility that the Rutgers grease trucks could be going away….due to the college’s “losing money” on them! (What else do you think they’ve lost money on?) Most say they want them to stay. Not surprising since many of the college crowd stops by for the occasional “Fat Beech” after a night of bar-hopping!

The N-bomb as greeting and salutation. A white middle school student addresses a friend by saying, “Hey, what up my n@#$%!”, and the African American bus driver goes ‘pazz’…cracking him in the head, and threatening to do harm to his family. If it’s not meant as a pejorative, but rather, as a “form of affection”, then why the double standard?

The “Wayne Hills 9” football players who were accused of assault have, after much deliberation, been banned from all extracurricular activities since having been accused of an assault on a couple of other teens from a rival high school. Lots of “innocent until proven guilty” calls on that one, but in the end, the Interim Superintendent made the right call and put the ban in place.

The Confederate Sweat Shirt flap in East Windsor knows no end…the mother of the kid in East Windsor who wore the Confederate sweat shirt to school and was subsequently suspended, is now suing the school. This is why schools need to have uniform policies in place. If kids want to “express” themselves through their choice of clothing, let them wait till they get home.

And finally the school bus driver controversy in Lakewood. Private schools are open on Thanksgiving Day. In years past, the bus company that has the contract with the township was told that the private schools wouldn’t need their services on days like Thanksgiving. This year, the private schools decided to use the busses, upsetting some drivers…although at the last minute, most private schools decided to not use the busses for the evening pick up. If you took a job where it was understood that you might have to work a holiday, do you feel you have a leg to stand on when your boss tells you to work? Also some retail workers, expected to show up right after Thanksgiving meals are fighting back, saying that they want stores not to open so early for Black Friday!

Catch you Monday night!
