To accommodate the heavy volume, the agency is providing extra customer service representatives at the airports and additional toll collectors at tunnels and bridges.

During the holiday period, from now through Jan. 1, more than 4.7 million passengers will travel through the major airports.  That includes 2.1 million at John F. Kennedy, 1.4 million at Newark Liberty, 1 million at LaGuardia and 15,200 at Stewart International.  Travelers are urged to allow extra time and check with their carrier before heading to the airport.

In an effort to encourage people to park at JFK and Newark Liberty, the Port Authority is offering a coupon that provides $5 off per day on the standard airport parking rates.  The coupons are in effect through Jan. 5.  To access them, go to www.parkintheairport.com.

About 9.7 million vehicles are expected to use the Port Authority's four bridges and two tunnels during the holiday period and all construction work will be suspended.  The agency is urging travelers to sign up for E-ZPass to avoid waiting in lines to pay cash.

As for the PATH, about 1.3 million passenger trips are expected between Dec. 24 and Jan. 1.  PATH will offer additional service as needed leading up to Christmas Eve, and  on Christmas Day, PATH will operate on a Saturday schedule.  There will also be additional late evening and overnight service for customers planning to attend the Time Square event on New Year's Eve.  A Saturday schedule will be in effect on New Year's Day.
