A man from Princeton was arrested Friday after leaving his two young children in a hotel room while he went to pick up his wife at a New York State outlet center.

Woodbury, New York police tell ABC 7 they found a crying 4-year-old boy wandering around the Hampton Inn in Central Valley, New York around 4 a.m. on Friday morning. When they returned him to the his room, they found his 11-year-old handicapped sister inside.

A phone call was made to Toru Sakaguchi, who explained he went to pick up his wife at the Woodbury Commons Premium Outlet around 3 a.m. but she took longer than expected to finish her shopping, according to the Journal News.

He tried to excuse it by saying, ‘My intention was to come right away, right back,'” Chief Richard Vasquez told CBS New York, which reports Sakaguchi checked his family out of the hotel upon their return and went back to the outlet center.

The Journal-News reports Sakaguchi was charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child and released. He will be in court on December 10.
