Overnight Delays Expected on Bayonne Bridge

Construction will result in traffic delays overnight on the Bayonne Bridge.

Only one lane will be open between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday while workers remove the sidewalk and fascia girders. The work will also take place between midnight and 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Port Authority police will hold traffic for up to 15 minutes on alternating sides while the work takes place.

The traffic holds will continue through Dec. 19, excluding the Thanksgiving holiday, when construction work will be suspended. The Gotheils Bridge can be used as an alternative route.

The work is part of a $1.3 billion project to raise the level of the roadway to allow larger ships to pass under the bridge and serve the ports of New York and New Jersey by the end of 2015.
