I am not referring to anything that happened this particular week, but merely looking forward the upcoming week, which is one that I relish.

While many will lean towards the first hints of warm weather, one of the summer holidays, or the week between Christmas and New Year’s, Thanksgiving week has always been on my short list of favorite times of the year.

The night before is a great time to catch up with friends and family, who are back in town. And I of course do not need to sell anybody on Thanksgiving day itself. I may have lost focus of the origins of the holiday, but any day that is predicated on eating all day and watching football…..sign me up for it.

I will divulge one secret that may lead to me losing some credibility, but I do not eat turkey at all. It is one of those foods I have never found that appetizing, and frankly very dry (even with gravy). My mother is the absolute best cook I know, but turkey is not something I partake in. I carb up with mashed potatoes and lasagna, among other things.

This week was a pretty heavy week with stories that have taken place, such as the Penn State scandal and the Occupy Wall Street protests turning ugly. Because of that, I decided to find the silver lining in this upcoming week.

The day after Thanksgiving will be a gathering of friends, possibly a morning football game, but laziness could prevail on that front.

I know this piece just seems very fluffy, but I wrote yesterday that we need America’s “bond” back. There is no better day than Thanksgiving to celebrate all that is good with friends and family, and just enjoy each other’s company……and eat until you fall asleep.

It also kicks off a month-long span where things are festive and people seem to be doing more good things for each other.

Every week, I run a segment called “What’s So Great About The Garden State,” where we feature a group or individual that is doing something to make this great state a better place. It is one of those assignments that I really do look forward to completing each week.

It is really remarkable to see the great work that people do across this state, and I am grateful they let us feature them. Monday’s story will feature an Atlantic City charity that helps the homeless and poor.

As we move through December, we will highlight holiday themed groups, and show the great work they are doing in New Jersey.

Enjoy the weekend everybody and enjoy the preparations for Thanksgiving……AND GO GIANTS!
