A 2-month-old girl was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden after a Little Egg Harbor family's pit bull, described as well behaved and friendly, inadvertently punctured the infant's chest when he lifted her up and carried her into the house according to 6 ABC.

A mother, her 2-month-old daughter and the family dog were in the backyard when the mom left for a moment to change a bottle.

The family believes the dog thought the baby was being left unattended, prompting his action. The unidentified child is in serious but stable condition according to 6 ABC.

Animal control officers took the dog away as is their usual procedure in such cases as an investigation into the incident continues.
