NYC Adults Split on Large Sugary Drink Ban, Poll Reveals
A new poll says about half of New Yorkers don't like Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposal to ban large servings of sugary drinks at city eateries.
The NY1-Marist poll released Monday says 53 percent of city adults say the proposal is a bad idea, while 42 percent say it's a good idea.
Forty-five percent of those polled said they think the ban on drinks over 16 ounces would help people lose weight. More than half the people surveyed said they never order a sugary drink big enough to be banned.
The pollsters interviewed 500 New York adults contacted randomly by telephone on Sunday. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
