New Jersey Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver says she won't bring a measure to the chamber's floor that would disband the Rutgers University Board of Trustees.

Oliver made the announcement Wednesday during an interview with The Star-Ledger's editorial board. She said the measure proposed by state Senate President Stephen Sweeney doesn't "speak to improving or retrofitting the governing structure."

The Board of Trustees is one of two boards that control the state's flagship public universities.

Sweeney introduced his measure late last month, saying the board's duties can be transferred to the more powerful Board of Governors. In a statement to the newspaper, Sweeney said the bill is not dead.

Rutgers issued a statement Wednesday night praising Oliver's decision, saying the measure is "unquestionably unconstitutional."
