LINDENWOLD —  When police were called to a borough home on Monday night, they found a man suffering multiple machete slash wounds — and have now charged the man's son with trying to kill him.

According to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo, police received a 911 call around 5:45 on Monday night and found the 61-year-old man suffering from slash wounds to his head and body. Police said 29-year-old James Rodgers used a machete to cut his father, but have not yet disclosed any suspected motive.

The older man was taken to Cooper University Hospital by helicopter for further treatment of his wounds, the prosecutor's office said. His son was taken into custody and was being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility.

James Rodgers has been charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He was being held in the county jail pending a detention hearing.
