BOGOTA — A 43-year-old man is facing child endangerment charges after he was found to be in possession of images involving alleged child sexual exploitation.

William R. Kooney of Bogota was arrested Friday as a result of an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit. According to Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal, authorities executed a search warrant at two separate locations where Kooney was known to spend time, including the Bogota residence on Central Avenue, and another in Teaneck on Farrant Terrace. During Friday's investigation, detectives seized evidence from both locations.

"The investigation revealed that Kooney utilized the Internet to view, possess, and attempt to distribute an image of child sexual exploitation," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

Kooney is charged with two counts of second degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child by attempting to distribute an image of child sexual exploitation, the prosecutor said. He is also charged with two counts of third degree endangering the welfare of a child for possessing child sexual exploitation materials.

Kooney is being held at Bergen County Jail on $3 million full cash bail, with no 10 percent option. He is also prohibited from having internet access. His first appearance in Bergen County Central Municipal Court in Hackensack is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
