
NJ fisherman on grounded boat says he doesn’t need help, then goes missing
TUCKERTON — The Coast Guard is looking for a man whose clamming boat ran aground off Little Egg Harbor.
State Police and the Tuckerton Fire Department are part of the search for the man who called a relative to tell him that the clamming boat ran aground around 8 p.m. Thursday. The man also had said he did not need assistance, according to the Coast Guard.
The man was not heard from again and a search was started after 8 a.m. Friday, when the boat was found with fishing gear on Hither Island.
The Coast Guard said a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a response boat are part of the search.
Hither Island is among of cluster of islands located in the Little Egg Harbor.
