Emergency responders from around New Jersey are participating in a four-day urban search and rescue team exercise to prepare for terrorist attacks, industrial accidents and natural disasters.

The exercise, which began Monday, is being held at the Newark Fire Department Training Academy.

It's a simulation of the Hackensack parking garage collapse that occurred in 2010. Emergency responders will work to prevent the garage's collapse, and rescue victims from vehicles in danger of being crushed.

More than 400 firefighters and emergency responders will participate in the Metro Urban Search and Rescue Strike Team exercise, which was created after Sept. 11, 2001. It's meant to unite regional agencies in case of a major disaster.
