Police did not have to go far to respond to a report of a man driving under the influence earlier this week.

It wouldn’t take effect until late next year at the earliest, but lawmakers unanimously advanced a plan Wednesday that could raise electricity costs by around $40 a year for homeowners and a half-million dollars for big industrial customers.

Gov.-elect Phil Murphy says a primary goal of his newly appointed head of transportation is to fix embattled NJ Transit, which he called “a national disgrace.”
