Most NJ Schools to Try out New Standarized Test

Most New Jersey school districts will try out a new standardized test next year before it goes statewide in 2015.

The state plans to use the new Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers to replace its main statewide tests, including the one used for high school graduation.

PARCC is being developed by a group of 19 states. It's intended to measure how well students meet the common core curriculum standards that 46 states have adopted for public schools.

School districts and states are relying increasingly on standardized exams to help determine the effectiveness of teachers.

State education officials announced Tuesday that some students in nearly 1,300 New Jersey schools will be given portions of the new exam in March or May.
