I knew last night was Mischief night….because I remember when my cousins moved out to Metuchen, they’d always say that the night before Halloween was the night they’d all go out and TP the trees and soap up windows.

I always thought that was a “Jersey thing”….calling it Mischief Night, and going out on the eve of Halloween.

For those of us who grew up in Brooklyn, Mischief Night was every night….but especially on Halloween night. So, just wondering…..what all did you do on Mischief Night back in the day?

It was real bothersome to see storefronts, busses, and in some cases, people getting “egged”. Not that some didn’t deserve it! But I’d always say to myself, “…gee, what a waste of eggs….how about those poor kids in China starving? They’d love to have those eggs!” (We were always being told about the poor kids starving in China anytime our parents wanted to throw the guilt about our not eating whatever my mother cooked that night…but that’s another matter!)

So due to the weather, and perhaps the high price of eggs this year…will Mischief Night be commemorated tonight? (I didn’t see any TP or shaving cream around the development this morning!)

How do you remember Mischief Night?

And doing it on the night before Halloween...was that just a Jersey thing?
