The federal Environmental Protection Administration is contributing $235,000. The commission is paying $100,500 in matching money for the project.

The Record reports that scientists plan to study diversity of plant life, prevalence of invasive plants species and factors that could prevent the wetland areas from working effectively.

The study is expected to begin in summer 2014 and continue into 2015.
