Police say a Cliffwood man attempted to hide a lit marijuana cigarette in his underwear after being pulled over for a violation Saturday evening.

Hackettstown police report that Jerome Postell, 33, was stopped for a moving violation while traveling on Route 46 at 11:29 p.m. An officer approaching the vehicle saw smoke coming from the window and also noticed a strong smell of burnt marijuana, police said.

During the course of an investigation, police discovered that Postell had lit the marijuana cigarette just before being stopped. In order to hide it from police, Postell hid the joint in his underwear as he was being pulled over, authorities said.

In addition, Hackettstown police said, Postell also was found to be in possession of a bag containing suspected marijuana, as well as a grinder that contained a substance that police also believed to be marijuana.

According to police, Postell was arrested and charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and issued a summons for maintenance of lamps on his vehicle. He was released pending a future appearance in municipal court.
