So it seems like yesterday was really the day for comfort food recipes, especially those that involved milk and bread. But to be honest, since there wasn't much snow where I live, I never got around to making the French toast.

So I decided to do it today instead.

I see a couple flurries whirling around my backyard, and even though it's probably blowing off my roof and not falling from the sky, I consider this a perfect day for my special French toast.

Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or 2 cups half milk, half heavy cream)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 cups Frosted Flakes cereal, crushed (you can use the cheap generic, too)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 8-10 slices challah (White bread would work too but it's just not the same!)
  • Caramel sauce or syrup

Directions:

  • In bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar and cinnamon.
  • In another shallow dish, place crushed cereal.
  • Heat large skillet over medium heat; melt butter and oil in skillet.
  • Dip bread pieces, one at a time, in egg mixture, then coat with cereal (pressing in with hands, if needed).
  • Cook about 4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Serve warm, with caramel sauce or syrup.
