There are several good Italian restaurants throughout New Jersey that make this dish and it's become my favorite. Like many dishes served here that are considered generally Italian, most of them are specific to a region or province in Italy and brought here by immigrants from that area. Best I can figure, this dish came from Puglia, but there are some people that might say otherwise. Wherever it came from, it's delicious!
