Judi Franco: What’s the deal with ‘Harambe’ memes?

Generally speaking, Harambe memes are not funny. But a guy who gets a Harambe meme about himself texted to him randomly one day? That's kinda funny.

Call me out of touch, unfunny, slow, dumb, humorless, all of the above, but I've never appreciated the "comedy" of the Harambe memes.

I really did think for a while that it was because I'm too old to get it until I spoke to one of my favorite mid 20s people: Our producer Dan Tantillo, who agreed with me that they are just not funny. I was excited for Jeremy, though, a guy I met at the Papermill Playhouse in Milburn last week while he was hawking candy and refreshments in the lobby.

He shared the meme on his phone, cracked screen and all! He had received out of the blue from a friend of his and much to his surprise he was the star! There's Jeremy! (Apparently channeling Jake from State Farm or a Target employee in the wardrobe department!!) peeking out from the little cage in Harambe's arms! Adorable.
