Holiday Food for Thought

I can cook, but I generally don't do it very often.  It's not because I don't like to, but with my schedule, it's hard to find the time.  I have picky eaters at home and I find that it's hard to come up with good, quick ideas. 

I always host Christmas at my house.  The entire family comes and I usually order food, pick it up on Christmas Eve and I just heat it up and put it in chafing dishes to serve on Christmas Day.  This year, I've decided to buck my usual trend and make a few dishes on my own. 

The thing is, I need some good ideas.  I usually like to keep it simple because I like to be able to enjoy my own parties and I don't want to spend the day in the kitchen.  My Uncle has been gracious enough to cook his famous-among-our-family lasagna.  I'm planning to get a huge filet mignon which I'll throw on the grill and, of course, a salad.  But, I'm looking for other ideas as well.  If you have any, please feel free to post them.  I'd appreciate any help I can get.
