HOBOKEN — Police have arrested a man they say followed a woman before sexually assaulting her in her home, with police saying they believe it was a random act and not a cause for any larger concern.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the arrest of 51-year-old Passaic resident Marco Blandino who was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, and one count of second-degree burglary for the attack that happened on April 23.

According to Suarez, the victim was walking home around 6 p.m. and when she was entering her apartment a man, believed to be Blandino, grabbed her from behind and pushed her into the apartment where he sexually assaulted her.

As of April, Hoboken had reported three rapes this year, according to crime data collected by the State Police. Last year, the city had just two rapes, down from nine in 2015.

Blandino was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Thursday afternoon and the prosecutor's office is expected to file for pre-trial detention.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact the prosecutor's office at 201-915-1234 or provide information through the office's website. Suarez said all information will be kept confidential.
