Some analysts pin the price increase on rising crude prices, but they are not sure why. Many are blaming rising demand overseas, such as China. Some drivers now paying more than 5 dollars a gallon for gas in California. But in almost every corner of this country, prices are skyrocketing.

New Jersey Gas Prices founder Jason Toews says, "I think a large part of this is that the oil companies are making record level profits."

Their website lists New Jersey's statewide average right now at $3.58-a-gallon. But Toews says there is a lot of price fluctuation, even in the same part of the state.

He cites one example in Trenton, where the lowest price is $3.45, and the highest is $3.99. Toews has one piece of advice for New Jersey drivers.

"Shop around, because even though gas prices are going up, you can still find a deal on gas."
