The latest term for what the left leaning media has been doing for years is "fake news."

A perfect example is a headline I saw today in a NJ.com newspaper story from a few months back that was reposted in a local magazine — "NJ Mother Loses 3 Sons to Gun Violence" — giving the impression that the guns caused these three young men, all under the age of 21 by the way, to lose their lives.

First, let me say that the pain this poor woman is experiencing is unimaginable and my heart bleeds for her. I can't imagine the sorrow she has endured. She admitted that her boys were "no angels" in her words. Especially Anthony, who was a high-ranking member of the Bloods street gang. He was described by a veteran Newark cop as a "vicious, vicious, street gangster," according to an article on NJ.com. As a mother, that doesn't matter. What matters is the pain she is going through.

What led to these violent deaths in Newark and other urban areas in New Jersey and around the country was not guns, it was the breakdown of the family unit and the absence of fathers. Countless young men turn to street gangs as a support system to fill the void and the results are tragic the overwhelming majority of the time.

Until we break the cycle of the state paying for out-of-wedlock births and fostering this environment we will not see an end to this kind of tragedy. And until the media has the balls to point to the real issue at hand here, they will continue to push the false narrative that gun violence causes these situations. It's the situations these young men come from that results in the gun violence that causes so much pain, heartache and misery in our inner-cities.
