Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano says Mauvette Mattandeen surrendered to detectives around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. She faces attempted murder and weapons charges, and her bail was set at $500,000 cash.

Soriano says Mattandeen's husband was sleeping in their Franklin Township home when she sprayed an unknown chemical in his face Friday morning. And while he was washing the chemical off, his 41-year-old wife allegedly threw the hot oil on him and then tried to attack him with an ax.

The man managed to flee to a neighbor's home and is being treated for severe burns to his head, face and torso.
