Flight aborted after pilot reports engine trouble

COLONIE, N.Y. (AP) -- A flight bound for Newark has returned to Albany International Airport and landed safely after the pilot noticed engine trouble.

Airport spokesman Doug Myers tells the Albany Times Union United Flight 5001, run by Commutair, took off from Albany at 1:45 p.m. Sunday with 41 passengers. Eight minutes later, the pilot radioed that it had to return because the second engine was running out of sync.

Airport rescue and firefighting crews were ready but the twin-engine turbo propeller plane landed and taxied to the gate without incident. Mechanics were inspecting the problem Sunday afternoon.
