But it was not immediately clear what sparked Wednesday morning's incident in Bloomsbury.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony Kearns III says state police responded to the home shortly before 7 a.m., after a 911 caller reported a woman and her adult daughter were lying injured on the home's front lawn. The troopers were confronted by the woman's 48-year-old husband, who was armed with a blunt object and inflicting injuries upon himself.

The troopers soon subdued the man, who was flown to a hospital along with his daughter, while his wife was taken to another hospital. All three victims had life-threatening injuries, and the husband and wife were undergoing surgery.
