The curtains nearly came down on Gov. Chris Christie at a town hall event in northern New Jersey.

Minutes after Christie started greeting the crowd at Westfield National Guard Armory, large blue curtains, an American flag and Christie banner reading "The Jersey comeback has begun" started to tip forward and into a small group of people seated behind the governor.

Those seated near the curtains Wednesday were able to catch them and set them upright, and the governor didn't appear concerned. He quickly started in with jokes, noting that the seats closest to him are not always the best in the house.

One man in the crowd in the Republican-leaning town yelled out at Christie to "check for Democrats."
