Q. As a New Jersey retiree, I have NJDirect Horizon supplemental insurance. Because I am the subscriber, will my spouse be eligible for coverage if I should predecease him?
— Arranging

A. This isn’t the kind of question we can give lots of details on.

Simply, you have to call the plan administrator and ask if your spouse will still be eligible after you die.

“We get this question a lot from new clients and that is the advice we give,” said Howard Hook, certified financial planner and certified public accountant with EKS Associates in Princeton. “Client then calls and is told either yes or no. It is pretty straightforward.”

Sorry we can’t tell you more, but this is the kind of specific thing you’ll need to determine for your specific plan and situation.
