Beachfront homeowners in Brick sue state over storm wall
Two oceanfront property owners in Brick have sued the state regarding the 2014 installation of a steel wall along the beach for storm protection.
NJ.com reports the lawsuit claims the homeowners effectively lost use of the beach in front of their homes because of severe erosion east of the wall.
Their attorney, William Ward, says that when the state installed the wall, it did so without obtaining easements from the duo and reimbursing them for property losses.
Now, he says the homeowners are left with a 10- to 12-foot drop-off from their property to the beach.
Officials say that beach replenishment efforts haven't been initiated yet because the state hasn't obtained the necessary property easements for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to rebuild.
