Around a dozen locations in New Jersey are considered "sanctuary cities" for illegal immigrants, but a new bill would forbid Sanctuary City policies and require that local and county officials fully cooperate with federal immigration and customs enforcement authorities. Assemblyman Ron Danser is the man behind this legislation, and he called in this morning to explain his logic.

"It's a large problem- not only numerically, but with respect to safety," said Danser, referring to New Jersey's illegal alien population of approximately half a million people.

According to Danser, the bill only targets illegal immigrants who have been convicted of crimes like burglary, sexual abuse, gang activity, unlawful use of a gun, or driving while intoxicated, as these are the ones who would be encountering law enforcement.

Danser said that the failure of government officials to enforce state laws is "precariously placing the general public at risk," referring to the murder of San Francisco woman Kate Steinle who was killed by an illegal alien who had been previously convicted for a variety of crimes.

What do you think of Danser's idea. Are we not protecting the public by allowing sanctuary cities to exsist? Let me know what you think by commenting or tweeting at @nj1015 and @BillSpadea.
