NEW YORK — A homeless man was arrested outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal on Monday afternoon with a gun, two knives and 106 rounds of ammunition.

Port Authority Police said Amos J. Stowers, 30, was first found smoking marijuana and "acting suspiciously" outside the terminal on Monday afternoon. As Stowers was questioned, police found a Kel Tec 9 mm pistol loaded with eight rounds and another round in the chamber inside his backpack.

He had 106 rounds of ammunition; 17 of those rounds were hollow point bullets and 89 were round nosed, according to police. There was even ammunition hidden inside a tube of toothpaste.

Stowers also had a switchblade knife and a folding knife, according to Port Authority Police, who said Stowers was arrested without incident.

Port Authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo said is unclear where Stowers came into possession of the pistol or other weapons.
