Authorities are trying to determine what sparked a fire that led to an explosion at a natural gas pipeline facility in Branchburg, injuring two workers.

The workers were welding a portion of an inactive pipe at the Williams Co. compression station when the blast occurred around 7 p.m. Thursday.

Company spokesman Chris Stockton tells the Courier News of Bridgewater the welders' injuries were not life-threatening.

Stockton says natural gas service was not disrupted.

Williams owns the Transco national gas pipeline. It is building a 6.6-mile pipeline extension in Hunterdon County.
