TRENTON — A 16-year-old girl who was shot in the head Sunday night as she sat in a mini-van has died from her injuries.

Ciony Kirkman was pronounced dead Tuesday night at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, Mercer County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Casey DiBlasio said Wednesday. Kirkman was one of seven teens inside the stolen mini-van parked at the corner of Jersey Street and Home Avenue when shots were fired early on Sunday night.

The Prosecutor's Office said the case remains under investigation and no arrests have been made. Kirkman is the fifth person to be killed in Trenton this year.

The shooting inspired the Rev. Mark A. Broach, senior pastor of the Trenton Deliverance Center Church, to hold a "Stop the Violence" rally in Trenton's South Ward on Tuesday night. “We are tired of the violence,” The Trentonian quoted him as saying. “When you hear that crime is down, it’s a lie. When you hear murders are down, it’s just a grace of God, because folks are shot every day."

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Trenton police at 609-989-3663.
