In the wake of what could turn out to be a very bad week in Missouri, a video surfaced that shows at least 6 Brookdale Community College campus police officers arresting a nursing student.

When joined in progress (which in and of itself is a problem), the student, 27 year old Jeffrey “Jay” Michel of Colts Neck – is shown asking officers to tell him why he's being arrested.

According to this story, officers cornered him on a bridge on Friday, while he was on campus doing homework.

“The officers began asking him questions about an incident the week prior when a friend had called police after Michel had confronted him about a missing laptop charger. The friend initially told police Michel was harassing him. But Michel and the friend said Monday that the issue had since been resolved by the time officers approached him. Michel said he told officers he did not want to answer their questions and asked them for their names and badge numbers.”

As I understand it, the cops have to tell him why he's being detained. If he's answering him, he jeopardizing his right to remain silent. At the point in which he is asking why he's being arrested, six Brookdale cops started wrestling with Michel before he was sprayed and taken into custody for obstruction, harassment, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

In the wake of the incident – Brookdale issued the following statement:

"Brookdale student Jeffrey Michel, 27, was being placed under arrest by Brookdale police officers on Nov. 14 as the result of an ongoing investigation. He was charged with harassment, obstruction, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office has been notified and is conducting an investigation. We are fully cooperating with the investigation and, as a result, we are unable to comment further at this time," the statement said.

Here's the deal - as far as we can tell, the cops didn't answer his question as to why he was being arrested? However, with all that being said, he's still resisting, even though he's claiming he can't breathe - and is about to be pepper sprayed.

Do you feel cops overreacted in arresting Brookdale nursing student Jay Michel?
