But a Middlesex County jury did find Christian Tinli and Cash Johnson guilty Monday of simple assault.

The charges stemmed from a June 2010 attack that resulted in the death of 49-year-old Divyendu Sinha, an Old Bridge Township man who was attacked while out walking with his family. Sinha suffered head injuries and died a few days later.

Three other defendants charged in the case had agreed to plea deals, including two who testified against Tinli and Johnson. But defense lawyers blamed those witnesses for the fatal beating.

All five defendants were teenagers when the attack occurred.
