MAHWAH — A 100-foot tall tree that fell onto a North Jersey road crushed a car and sent the driver to the hospital.

NorthJersey.com reported a 26-year-old Oakland woman was hospitalized with facial and internal injuries after the tree fell onto her Hyundai Elantra as she was heading south on Route 202 on Wednesday afternoon.

Oakland Police Chief James Batelli estimated winds were gusting to 35 to 40 mph at the time of the incident.

"If there's any luck involved here, this girl was lucky, because the driver's compartment was the only compartment within the vehicle that had any semblance of space left in it. The rest of the interior was crushed completely," Lt. Phillip Tangel told ABC 7 Eyewitness News.
