JERSEY CITY — Shakeema North — a woman police say racked up $30,000 in unpaid tolls — told officers she had a valid E-ZPass account but didn't like the way the transponder looked on her windshield, Port Authority police reportedly said.

Spokesman Joseph Pentangelo told NJ Advance Media an officer spotted "toll unpaid" display after North's silver 2009 silver BMW went through the Holland Tunnel toll plaza on Tuesday. When she was stopped, Pentangelo told the news organization, North said she forgot to put the unit back

When officer Chris Johnson ran North's record he discovered she had not one but five E-ZPass accounts, all of which were delinquent, and 400 unpaid tolls that totaled $30,000, Pentangelo said according to the report. In addition, her registration expired last month, Pentangelo said.

North was charged with theft of services and has an Aug. 16 court date.
