HAMILTON — Three people, including a 16-year-old driver were taken into custody after crashing trying to avoid a traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 295 with drugs and weapons found in their car.

Lawrence Township residents Brian Rodriguez, 18, and Jonathan Martinez, 24, were in the car with the young driver when he was observed by troopers at a "high rate of speed," according to the New Jersey State Police.

In attempting to drive away from the troopers the car came to a stop after hitting a traffic barrier near the interchange with the New Jersey Turnpike. None of the people in the car were injured and all three were taken into custody.

The state police said a search of the car turned up two handguns loaded with hollow point bullets, marijuana, heroin, and drug paraphernalia. All three were charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, certain persons not to possess a firearm, possession of hollow point bullets, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, and distribution of paraphernalia. The driver was also charged with driving while intoxicated.

Rodriguez and Martinez were taken to the Burlington County Jail on a no bail warrant while the teen was taken to the Burlington County Youth Detention Center with a no bail warrant.
