State critical of Sandy pay in Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) -- State officials are questioning overtime pay to school officials in Pleasantville during Superstorm Sandy.

The school board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday to discuss a report from the state Education Department's Fiscal Accountability and Compliance Office.

Pleasantville's high school and middle school were designated as American Red Cross shelters during Sandy.

The Press of Atlantic City reports 74 school district employees, mostly custodians, security, and support personnel, were paid almost $102,000 in disaster relief payments between Oct. 28 and Nov. 4.

The office found former Superintendent Garnell Bailey and three other administrators were improperly paid more than $11,400 in overtime for working during Sandy. The office also questioned payments made to eight custodians and five security personnel.
