South Jersey standoff ends peacefully

A standoff between police and a Camden  man ended peacefully in Blackwood on Saturday night.

Andre Andujar,wanted on a $50,000 failure to appear warrant, barricaded himself inside his ex-girlfriend's apartment armed with a knife according to Gloucester Township Police. Six adjacent apartments were evacuated as a precaution.

During negotiations with the township Special Response Team the 20-year-old promised to release the woman but not. At one point an officer opened the front door slightly in an attempt to free her but instead Andujar pulled her back further into the apartment.

After several hours Andujar released his ex unharmed but remained inside the apartment for several minutes before surrendering. He was taken to JFK Hospital in Cherry Hill and charged with criminal restraint, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction of justice and violation of a final restraining order. He is being held on $135,000 bail.
