MARLBORO — A small single-engine plane crashed Saturday afternoon in a residential neighborhood near Route 18, injuring its pilot, who is expected to recover.

The Luscombe 8A aircraft went down about 1 p.m. in a field near School Road and Oak Lane, an FAA spokeswoman said. The federal agency and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

The male pilot, who authorities did not name, was taken by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with non-life-threatening injuries.

There were no passengers on board, township police said.

The field where the plane crashed is surrounded by trees, police said, adding that there was no property damage to nearby homes.

The plane also was intact and there was no fire, officials said.

Colts Neck emergency responders also were on scene.

Other details about the crash were not immediately available Saturday afternoon.
