If you're planning a late-summer getaway before the hustle and bustle of the fall season kicks in with back-to-school and readjusting to a new schedule, there's a new study that asks the question: Would you rather drive or fly?

If you're looking to leave New Jersey, how far are you willing to drive before you'd rather just head to the airport?
Would you happily hop in the car for a long road trip, or would you rather spend a few hours in the sky and get to your destination sooner?

A new survey finds we're willing to drive an average of nine hours and 39 minutes before deciding we’d rather fly. Does that sound about right?
I would say it also depends on how long you're going for and how much a flight would cost for you and your family. According to Upgraded Points, certain states have a much shorter tolerance for long road trips.
Driving Limits For The States Not Willing To Drive As Long
California: 6 hours, 24 minutes
Massachusetts: 6 hours, 55 minutes
Rhode Island: 7 hours, 16 minutes
Texas: 7 hours, 16 minutes
Illinois: 7 hours, 38 minutes

I always factor in the entire travel day, not just the time the plane is actually in the air, but the trip to the airport, getting there a couple hours before the flight, getting the luggage, and how far the airport is from our travel destination. Sometimes it's just easier to drive, but nearly 13 hours is a long time.
States More Willing To Drive
Idaho: 12 hours, 55 minutes
Montana: 12 hours, 42 minutes
Kentucky: 12 hours, 40 minutes
Missouri: 12 hours, 37 minutes
Maine: 12 hours, 35 minutes
You'd better have a good playlist and a lot of snacks to keep you entertained!
