Richard Gray of Port Reading was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says a routine inspection by Customs and Border Protection agents last month revealed a package from China containing illegal steroids. Agents traced the package to Gray. Prosecutors say a search of Gray's home allegedly uncovered about 89,000 pills and thousands of steroids in liquid form.

Agents also allegedly found shipping labels, packing materials and Western Union receipts.

The 60-year-old is scheduled to appear in court in Newark Wednesday afternoon. He was being represented by the federal public defender's office, which didn't return a phone message.
